This is a diagramatic representation of the Trackback as it was originally developed by by SixApart, Mena & Ben the creators of the MovableType blog package.

The Trackback discussed here in fact is misnomer, it is a Pingback and will allow you to make a comment on a specific blog post of another writer. It is better described diagramatically as:

The confusion in definitions has probably resulted in the numerous systems out there and inadvertently misnamed. The Pingback  works well with users who have enabled Disqus on their blog but I have not tested it on other comment platforms as yet.
Casey has used it to pingback a Wordpress blog but I don't have all the details as yet.

The reference to the tool is:

This was developed by Peter Forret.

The submission of the Pingback is via this form above referred to in the preceeding link.

1.    The Trackback URL is referring to the Disqus Trackback URL.  To copy this address click your mouse over the                   address and then Right click> Copy  or {Ctrl+C}. Come back to this form and Paste it or {Ctrl+V}
2.    The Blog Name is referring to your Blog.
3.    The Title of your post from which you wish to refer to the trackback post.
4.    Excerpt is a relevant excerpt from your post addressing or mentioning some aspect in their trackbacked post.
5.    Blogpost URL is the URL associated with your current post.  This can be acquired by first publishing your post                      then Right click and copy the address (URL) of your post and then pasting it into the Blog Post URL field.

6.    Click the "Submit Trackback" button. The notification is very quick and if successful you will see a green solid                 rectangle with OK written in white letters.

So now we have a way to utilise the Trackback URL as originally intended. I want to include this as a built in feature of the Yola blog with the intention of really only needing to insert minimal information and allowing the code to automatically obtain the other bits and pieces. This should be able to be enacted simply by clicking a link within the blog facility somewhere.

Good luck and if you have problems or ideas please share them and I think we can really get a great system up and working efficiently without too much reliance on first principles. I think for the first few times it will be a bit of a mind battle but thereafter should be OK.

This development was a collaborative pleasure with two others; Casey: Yola Blogger  and John, Kanthai Decor

There are further issues developing wrt Linkbacks and blog publishing management. Please watch John, Caseys plus Krooclub blogs for these.
