People obtain their news like blogs by various channels. The bookmark "chicklets" that are so common are a guide to what people are using.
It's worthwhile syndicating your posts through a number of these appropriate syndicators as it may place your posts in the most interested groups rather than in a single amorphous pool. The steps are generally well explained on their sites and usually requires some initial registration. Subsequently the process of submitting your post can be done a number of ways. The easiest by far is to send an electronic signal to the syndicator advising them that you have a new post and want it syndicated through their facilities. Simply waiting will most often work but would depend on the internal schedule of the crawlers coming to your blog site, finding a new post and then subsequently indexing it in their register.

This ping facility maybe specific to them or in some cases there are  agencies, if you like, that allow multiple syndication notifications by a single ping. One such facility is http://www.pingomatic.com. They don't have all the syndicators listed but many are.
 
To use Pingomatic you register then fill in the list of the syndicators you have registered with and to which you wish to publish your posts. Finally there is a submit button. That's it. You should save this page as a bookmark and then for your next post simply recall the bookmark and click submit. It does seem that Technorati, although listed, may not work reliably with pingomatic at this time. For this reason I use the Technorati stand-alone ping facility.
